Music is intrinsic within social culture. It brings people together and creates an atmosphere that would otherwise be neglected. Music can be experienced in multiple ways, and the journey through its listening process is mutually amplified by the pace it occupies. Much like Kaurna people that once lived on these lands, music is a ceremony where the exchange of dance, foods and knowledge occurs.
The proposed design and programming of the Stag Hotel is a music exploring space the visitors can seamlessly walk though various areas and threshold of the building and get lost in the experience that is music. The design aims to employ the open floor plan that the existing stag holds and further extend this. The above floor plans however will aim to create a more closed and private space that will transition through thresholds from opening and closing ceilings.
This new environment will attempt to rethink how we experience drinking in Australia, seeing the public house as not only a place for social interaction and drinking, but a celebration of art, culture and life.
