Mumbai is a rapidly developing megacity with a population of exponential growth. Its culture vast, while the distribution of wealth is stark. Wealth and poverty however, often live side by side in Mumbai. The proximity of this relationship is what drives the Koliwada Centre.

The Koliwada Centre focuses on what makes this region of Mumbai unique, its traditional way of life and fishing culture. The design embraces the dynamism, fluidity and community of the neighbouring slums, in an attempt to both draw the people of Dhuravi and the broader Mumbai to gather and learn about the Koliwada people, their history and purpose to greater Mumbai. The design follows a brief for the development of a new fishing dock, fish market and residential living space.

The Cultural centre seeks to bring these two facets of life together to integrate both sides of the economic demographic and also attract traffic from tourists and locals alike for the existing fish-market space
